Sandy Herrault - September 2021
Here’s how Sandy Herrault came to be our featured artist for September. I met Sandy a couple of years ago at the Irish music session at the White Horse Tavern in Black Mountain. I play whistle; Sandy plays fiddle. After that evening, I friended Sandy on Facebook. Shortly after that,
Sandy began posting pictures of the artwork she was creating, mostly of animals.
I was so taken with Sandy’s artwork, I asked if she might be interested in displaying her artwork
in our gallery. After she and Carol Duin talked about it, Sandy decided that she wasn’t quite
ready to have a show. Painting was a relatively new thing for her. She wanted to have more
paintings before she had a show.
Last Christmas, I asked Sandy to do a commission. She painted a beautiful picture
of my mom’s beloved dog Mike, who died two years ago. Mom was deeply moved by it.
This Spring, when I saw that the gallery had an opening in September, I suggested that Carol might reach out to Sandy again. This time, Sandy was ready!
The show in our gallery will be the first show Sandy has ever done.
Sandy, Casey, and I also are working to incorporate her artwork into next Sunday’s worship service. As you’ll see, a lot of Sandy’s artwork is creation-based...which makes it perfect for a reading of the creation story in Genesis 1!
