Heather Tolbert / Kai Lendzion
May 2021
Remembering the fatal encounters with law enforcement of George Floyd, Breonna Taylor and countless other Black Americans, artists Heather Tolbert and Kai Lendzion will showcase their art at The Oak Street Gallery for the month of May, 2021. Ms.Tolbert's evocative acrylic paintings speak volumes about her personal as well as Black America’s quest for liberation and equality. You will see moments in history captured through Mr. Lendzion’s lens of both protests in Asheville and also the 50th anniversary march across the Edmund Pettus Bridge in Selma. His photographs will challenge you to think about the brave people who have protested.
There will be a live opening featuring gospel singer, Kia Rice, on May 7, 2021 from 5PM-8PM on the patio of the Oak Street Gallery. The rain date is May 8, 2021.
This exhibit is a collaborative effort between the YMI Cultural Center and the First Congregational United Church of Christ.
