Our congregation is exploring the opportunity and privilege of building relationships with our brothers and sisters in Nicaragua. A delegation of eight from our church traveled south to spend a week learning about the culture, the people, and the history of this beautiful, yet tortured country. Our hope is to learn how we can be better neighbors and create change in our local community that systemically will benefit not only ourselves but our entire global village. This experience is one we hope to build on and are already planning to return with another delegation in January, 2011.
We partner with an organization by the name of AKF (Kairos Association for Formation) who believes "that the Project of God, which we understand to be a Project of Liberation (building of a World of Justice and love), is possible.
We believe that every human being is called to be a participant, contributing to the creation of a just world that respects the dignity and value of all people, as well as the earth, nature and all that surrounds us. We believe in the talents and gifts of each person and that they are necessary for change. We believe that the road is made by walking and that on the journey we are all teachers and students."
